About GigTakeHome

Numbers You Can Inspect, Not a Black Box

GigTakeHome is a free, no-signup planning site for U.S. delivery couriers and rideshare drivers. It turns the messy gap between gross app pay and take-home pay into a short, explainable calculation.

The problem we are solving

Platform dashboards emphasize gross earnings and active time. Drivers still have to account for waiting, mileage, vehicle wear, business expenses, self-employment tax, income tax, and irregular payment dates.

Our calculators make those layers visible without asking for an account, a phone number, or a bank connection.

Who builds GigTakeHome

Jostar is the public name I use for this project. I’m the independent developer and editor behind GigTakeHome, focused on turning complicated tax and cost questions into practical tools that gig drivers can understand and inspect.

I use AI-assisted development tools to help with coding, testing, research organization, and early drafts. They do not make publishing decisions or replace source review. I’m responsible for what appears on GigTakeHome: checking material claims against cited primary sources, testing the calculators, disclosing assumptions and limitations, and correcting errors when they are found.

I’m not a tax professional, accountant, attorney, or financial adviser. GigTakeHome provides educational planning estimates, not individualized advice. Material federal tax constants are checked against enacted law and official IRS and SSA materials, fuel-price defaults use EIA data, and assumptions created for the site are identified as estimates. If your situation depends on facts the calculators do not collect, consult current official guidance or a qualified professional.

How we earn trust

Every material tax constant is stored with its tax year, effective dates, status, authority, and source URL. Important assumptions appear beside the result rather than behind a registration wall.

We separate official federal calculations from simplified planning estimates. State tax is intentionally labeled as a rough planning rate because a truthful 51-jurisdiction tax return engine would require far more facts.

What this site is not

GigTakeHome does not prepare or file returns, transmit tax payments, determine whether a particular trip is deductible, or replace a tax professional. The calculators cannot see credits, household details, local taxes, prior payments, or every limitation.

Platform names are used only to describe the intended audience. GigTakeHome is independent and is not sponsored by the platforms it mentions.

Corrections and contact

Tax rules and government datasets change. If you find an error, use the report-an-error link in the footer and include the page, input assumptions, expected result, and an official source when possible.

We prioritize corrections that can materially change a driver’s decision or estimate.
