Estimate with your numbers

Step 1/3: Earnings and work schedule

Start with the main numbers
Combine all self-employment receipts, even when no information return was issued.
Use fewer than 52 for time off or seasonal work.

Self-employed write-offs and independent contractor deductions

Enter ordinary, necessary, documented nonvehicle business expenses as one planning total and keep the receipts and allocation records behind it. This v1 tool does not decide whether a particular purchase is deductible.

Use the 1099 tax deductions guide for categories, mixed-use allocation, records, and questions to take to a professional.

Split mileage by the date driven

The 2026 standard business mileage rate is 72.5¢ per mile from January 1 through June 30 and 76¢ per mile from July 1 through December 31. Do not average the rates or also subtract the fuel and depreciation they represent for the same period.

When actual vehicle costs may be more appropriate, compare the arithmetic in standard mileage vs. actual expenses before relying on a result.

Read every number as planning context

The model separates Schedule C profit, self-employment tax, federal income tax, state planning, and the cash reserve. Other household income, withholding, credits, local tax, prior payments, and filing facts can change a return.

For a focused Social Security and Medicare tax view, compare this result with the self-employment tax calculator.

Frequently asked questions

What does the 1099 deductions calculator subtract?

It subtracts the documented nonvehicle expense total and the dated mileage deduction you enter, then models the tax layers. It does not decide legal eligibility for any individual expense.

Does getting a 1099 mean I owe a fixed percentage?

No. Tax depends on profit, filing status, other income, withholding, credits, state, and records. A form is information, not a fixed rate.

Can I deduct gas and mileage together?

Generally not for the same vehicle period when using standard mileage, because the standard rate already represents ordinary vehicle operating costs. Compare methods before entering overlapping costs.

What if I did not receive a 1099?

Report taxable business receipts even when no information form was required. Reconcile app statements, deposits, tips, and your own records.

Is this a refund calculator?

No. It is an educational estimate of modeled tax and cash planning. It does not calculate a refund, filing result, or every credit and withholding interaction.
